Committees (Volunteer Opportunities)

To become a Master Gardener, students and graduates must accrue 60 volunteer hours. These hours must be accrued in Essex County or Essex County sponsored projects. Students and graduates may begin accumulating hours in any of the following activities:

  • 4-H Youth Development
  • Advanced Training
  • Branch Brook Park Restoration Zones – maintains restored zones by understanding design, plant needs, and leading volunteers.
  • Brookdale Park Pruning — ongoing pruning of trees and shrubs, including dogwoods, meets Wednesday mornings.
  • Brookdale Park Rose Garden  – maintains historic garden, meets Thursdays 9am-1pm.
  • Education Outreach, K-12 school based projects throughout the year.
  • Glenmont Project – maintain garden beds at Thomas Edison National Historic Park in West Orange
  • Greenhouse – propagates for annual plant sale, meets Tuesday mornings late October through mid-May.
  • Grounds/Maintenance at Garibaldi Hall, maintains and beautifies the grounds, meets Tuesdays.
  • GROW Community Outreach Program, 3-4 Sessions a year, half-day long.

  • Horticulture for Seniors – holds monthly workshops for seniors.
