To be a certified Master Gardener, students and graduates must accrue 25 volunteer hours each year. These hours must be accrued in Essex County or in Essex-County-sponsored projects.
- 4-H Youth Development
- Branch Brook Park Restoration Zones – maintains restored zones by understanding design, plant needs, and leading volunteers.
- Brookdale Park Pruning: performs ongoing pruning of trees and shrubs, including dogwoods. Meets Wednesday mornings.
- Brookdale Park Rose Garden: maintains historic garden. Meets Thursdays 9 a.m.–1 p.m.
- Education Outreach: conducts K–12 school-based projects throughout the year.
- Glenmont Project: maintains garden beds at the Thomas Edison National Historic Park in West Orange.
- Greenhouse: propagates for annual Master Gardener plant sale,
- GROW Community Outreach Program: 3–4 half-day sessions per year.

- Horticulture for Seniors: holds monthly workshops for seniors.
