Where We Volunteer

To be a certified Master Gardener, students and graduates must accrue 25 volunteer hours each year. These hours must be accrued in Essex County or in Essex-County-sponsored projects.

  • 4-H Youth Development
  • Branch Brook Park Restoration Zones – maintains restored zones by understanding design, plant needs, and leading volunteers.
  • Brookdale Park Pruning: performs ongoing pruning of trees and shrubs, including dogwoods. Meets Wednesday mornings.
  • Brookdale Park Rose Garden: maintains historic garden. Meets Thursdays 9 a.m.–1 p.m.
  • Education Outreach: conducts K–12 school-based projects throughout the year.
  • Glenmont Project:  maintains garden beds at the Thomas Edison National Historic Park in West Orange.
  • Greenhouse: propagates for annual Master Gardener plant sale,
  • GROW Community Outreach Program: 3–4 half-day sessions per year.

  • Horticulture for Seniors: holds monthly workshops for seniors.
